For those of you who know Clifford Perry (aka Pez)you will know that he has bravely been fighting Leukaemia for the past 18 months. The staff at the Haemotology Dept. at UCLH undoubtably saved Pez's life and the fund raising evening  showcasing The Beatin Hearts at HARLINGTON VILLAGE HALL sucessfully raised ££££ towards the fund

Gigs and Reviews  2014

The Monken Holt - Saturday 15th November
Tabard RFC, Radlett  - Saturday 22nd November
Redbourn Recreation Centre  - 20th July

Childwickbury Arts and Music Festival  - Sunday  6th July

This week saw the band at Childwickbury Arts and Music Festival for the third year running. This is run every year by the Stanley Kubrick family in a beautifully restored village north of St. Albans. The kind weather brought out people in droves.  As usual there was an eclectic mix of musical genres.
The Beatin’Hearts followed “Beans n’ Biscuits,” a Country and Western band, and were followed themselves by a cellist accompanied by a German Narrator recounting the story of Ferdinand the Bull. A fourteen piece ukulele ensemble followed, so something for everyone (I think)

Larks in The Parks, St. Albans - Sunday 29th June

For our second gig of the weekend  we were at  Larks in the Parks. This is an annual event organized by St. Albans Arts and bands from all over the area play in parks dotted around St.Albans. Roestock Park was allocated to The Beatin’Hearts, where the band set up amongst Unicyclists, Jugglers and Geranium Sellers (got to watch them!) Keeping a watchful eye on the weather as well, the band rattled through their set, turning heads and reducing the queue for Geraniums.

BuntsFest,  - Saturday 28th June

Thanks to the lovely people who voted for the band to appear, and the first of these outside gigs was The Buntsfest 2014, which was organized as the same day as Glastonbury. The similarities were there as the skies darkened and the rain descended. This presented no barrier to the Band however as they were safely (and comfortably) inside a huge inflatable stage overlooking the hardy milling throng, huddled under umbrellas, cupping mugs of tea and huge German Sausage Rolls.
Lost of money raised I’m told, for The Herts and Essex Air Ambulance.

The Beatin’ Hearts Barnet Tour
It’s been a really enjoyable few weeks on our mini tour of Barnet.

The Misty Moon,  - Saturday 21st June

On the night of the Barnet Music Festival organized by the good people at Barnet4U magazine, The Beatin’Hearts trod the boards in The Misty Moon.
Playing right at the back under the famous Misty Moon Atrium proved no handicap to the Hearts who played a storming gig. Casual passers-by were enticed by the music to enter the unknown and sip a nice pint of Tribute while they “rocked out”. Landlord Steve and his team are hoping to make a go of their music nights, it got off to a great start.

Mark Day of Kentish Town commented “ I was going to Camden, but got on the 134 by mistake, I’m glad I did! We’ve had a great night!”

The Black Horse, Barnet   - Saturday 14th June

A debut gig  at the newly refurbished Blackhorse where a man defied gravity and flew through the air. The doors were flung open on a barmy night where the music and Dave’s Brummie tones wafted into the beer garden for the rest of the crowd (or smokers as they are called). The band took full advantage of the micro-brewed real ale and another enjoyable night ensued.

Paul Whitebread of Barnet told the band” I’ve been playing cricket in Brighton today, but I didn’t want to miss this”

The Monk, Barnet   - Saturday 7th June

We have played the Monk before, but this time because of Sergio Ramos’ last minute equalizer in the Champions League Final we started late and finished in the early hours. Proper Rock n ‘ Roll.
Alas no Red Haired Lady this time, but another great audience. Thanks to Henry and his staff.

Pete Estall, a regular was heard to say” I played football with that guitarist!”

Tabard Rugby Club  - 8 March 2014

A belated thank you to all of you who managed to get to the Tabard gig last week, despite the"crowd control" road blocks that Radlett Council set up, which managed to thwart some of our intrepid supporters.

We have been re-booked for next season as I understand the club raised a tidy sum for their youth section, on the night.

Thanks again, hope to see you all in May, back in Barnet.

  2. This was the biggest gathering of ex EBOG footballers seen for many years. Just like Alan Drive on a Saturday night 30 years ago. Including international travellers from New Jersey - 3000miles away.
